ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Jennifer Baugh believes that our increasingly fast-paced world can leave many feeling disconnected and overwhelmed. Through PUSHING BACK, her latest exhibit, she seeks to create a space where individuals can find solace, stimulation, or simply a new perspective. By transforming everyday objects into thought-provoking art, Baugh challenges viewers to reconsider their own perceptions and to appreciate the beauty in the unconventional.

“It is my hope that these drawings will challenge the viewer to look at the world a little differently. Perhaps engage with people differently,” she explained. “We are not bound by our circumstances, labels, or the way we are perceived by others.”

Jennifer grew up in Northwest Arkansas where her love of art was forged in summertime art camps. As an adult, she finds freedom of expression through drawing and creating immersive experiences to help others better understand and navigate sensory processing disorder. She also teaches sensory focused art classes, gives talks on SPD, and creates personalized sensory baskets for children.

CREATION PROCESS

My pieces start from something found or noticed. I see an object, an ordinary thing, with its intended form and purpose, and I see it in colors and patterns. I see the abstract in the mundane”.

Alcohol markers form the base of color. Multiple layers of Prismacolor pencils are added for saturation and texture. The colors are then burnished with a rotary tool and wool or cashmere bits, adding shine and depth to the layers. This creation process is as much a sensory one as it is a visual one.
